Team Bowelbabe

We’re excited to announce that for the first time we’ll have a team of runners taking on the TCS London Marathon 2025. We had a surprising number of applications for our team this year, thank you to everyone who took the time to apply. Our fantastic team are made up of Deborah's brother and sister, some of her dear friends, and people just like you, who all have incredible stories and are just as passionate about raising money for the Bowelbabe Fund and awareness of bowel cancer as we are. We hope by sharing their stories they will inspire you to take on your own challenge.

In every step Ben and I take during the London Marathon 2025, we’ll be channelling Deborah’s spirit and our shared love for running! We made unforgettable memories together. The Bowelbabe Fund has already powered ten amazing projects in just two and a half years! Let’s keep the momentum going and ensure funds go toward early diagnosis and personalised medicine—what Deborah truly believed in.

I'm very proudly running the 2025 London Marathon as part of #TeamBowelBabe in memory of my beautiful friend Dame Deborah James. I will run every step for her, for all the precious friends lost too soon and for every single person affected by cancer. I'll also be running very proudly as a long-term survivor.

Running was always mine and Debs’ coping mechanism and I made a promise to her on the Best Friends episode of You, Me and the Big C that I would run a marathon in her honour so here I am!

I can always feel her presence whilst running and I know that she will be cheering me and the team on with the promise of a large glass of rosé waiting at the finish line. Cheers to you Debs…miss you.

I am absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud to join Team Bowelbabe. Although I never met Deborah, she was such an inspiration and such a positive force raising awareness of the possibility of young people getting cancer, promoting early diagnosis and funding further ground breaking research to find new treatments for and early detection of cancer . Deborah and her co-presenters on “You, me and the Big C” had a direct influence on my practice as a GP - I now “think cancer”…”Is it a possibility even though this patient is young?

Debs and I always said we'd run a marathon together, but Covid got in the way and the closest we came was running together virtually on Facetime. So taking on the London Marathon for the Bowelbabe Fund in Debs' memory means a lot and I’ll be running as if she's alongside me cheering me on”

Running the London Marathon has been on my to-do list for many years. I was first inspired by my amazing friend Carla who ran it twice. So now the dream has come true and I have the opportunity to run on behalf of TeamBowelbabe. I’m blown away to be able to support this amazing charity and help to continue Dame Deborah’s legacy. What an inspiration she is. 💜
